Police have arrested a teenage suspect in a Vernon gas station robbery where the suspect was allegedly wearing a Deadpool mask.

The incident back on the night of Aug. 1 saw a man enter the Esso 7-Eleven on 34th Street and threaten the staff with a knife while demanding money.

“The suspect grew impatient and fled the store without any cash, however not before helping himself to a beverage and a small toy. A multi-unit response, including the assistance of the Kelowna RCMP K9 unit, could be seen by residents as officers extensively searched the area for the suspect,” RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said in a news release Aug. 2.

Police said in a news release Monday they received a number of viable tips that led to a suspect being identified and later arrested.

“Police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and seized items pertaining to the investigation. A 19-year-old Vernon man was arrested by police and remains in custody. The matter is currently before the courts,” Cpl. Tania Finn said.

No one was injured in the incident.
