That leaves just one active fire in the Kamloops Fire Centre at this point — the Richter Mountain fire west of Osoyoos which is being held at 403 hectares.

There are two active fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre (KFC) this morning including a possible small, new fire in the North Okanagan.

It is listed as spot sized, meaning under one hectare, and located in the Silver Hills area northwest of Cherryville.

“It was reported (Tuesday) in the evening, and a crew went out to take a look, and they were unable to locate anything,” Information Officer Nicole Bonnett from the B.C. Wildfire Service told Vernon Matters.

“They are going back out today. I think the reports were pretty good. It just got too dark for them to find a best vantage point to be able to observe any fire behaviour. By the time they got out there, they couldn’t see any smoke as it was too late in the evening.”

Bonnett said three spot sized fires in the KFC were put out after starting Tuesday: one near Copper Mine Road in the Princeton area, another near Wallander Lake south of Kamloops and another southeast of Oliver.

The Richter Mountain Wildfire west of Osoyoos is still classified as being held at 403 hectares.

One-hundred and-fifty-one personnel are on site today, and the Wildfire Service said personnel are making “great progress.”

Provincially, there are 34 active fires burning in B.C., according to the Wildfire Service.
