Trails closed after fatal accident

An Alberta man has died after falling from a trail in the Shuswap.

RCMP in Sicamous say the man’s body was found Monday at the bottom of a steep cliff on the Creek Falls Trail in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Park near Two Mile Road in Mara.

“Sicamous RCMP frontline members attended the scene and located the male. The B.C. Coroners Service attended and is in the early stages of its fact-finding investigation; the Coroners Service investigates all sudden, unexpected and/or unnatural deaths in the province to determine who died, how, where, when and by what means,” said Sargeant Murray McNeil.

Shuswap Search and Rescue helped with the recovery due to the location and difficult terrain.

The Coroner’s Service is investigating the death of the 53 year old man said to be from Sherwood Park.

“This investigation is ongoing but at this time it appears this is a tragic incident,” added McNeil.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District said trails at Sicamous Creek Falls will be closed indefinitely following the fatal accident.

“To ensure public safety while the investigation into the incident continues, the entire Sicamous Creek Trail system will be closed to the public,” said the District.
