Senior dies in fall from park cliff
A 72 year old man has died in what police are calling a tragic incident in a Vernon area park.
“On Saturday, July 27, 2019, just before 10 a.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park in Vernon [Coldstream] B.C., for a report of a hiker who sustained fatal injuries as a result of a fall from a cliff where he landed in the water below,” said Const. Kelly Brett in a news release.
“The RCMP along with Emergency Health Services attended to a nearby boat launch, where a 72 year old Vernon man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. This is a tragic incident for all those involved, including the citizens on the water who came to the aid of the man, via boat, however were unable to resuscitate him,” added Brett.
Brett said there are parts of the trail system in the park that can lead to some steep embankments and cliff edges, so they remind hikers and visitors to the park, to be cautions when hiking in the area.
