Cadets introduced to new activity

Jul 23, 2019 | 1:47 PM

Visiting cadets in Vernon found out more about what is called the fastest growing sport in North America.

Members of the Vernon Pickleball Association (VPA), in association with the Vernon Cadet Training Centre, recently taught the basics of the sport to 120 cadets over four afternoons at their courts in Marshall Fields.

“Pickleball is known as being the fastest growing sport in North America, and the VPA was excited to showcase the sport to these younger players, exposing them to the game as it quickly grows in popularity,” Anne Longley, s spokesperson for the association said.

It was a new component of one of the courses offered to the cadets.

“The basic fitness and sports course is part of their training where they learn to play a variety of sports to enhance their knowledge about physical fitness,” Longley added.

The 12 to 18-year-old cadets from across Canada are here for training courses lasting two to six weeks.

The Training Centre is celebrating its 70th anniversary this summer.
