The rain stopped, the clouds disappeared and the sun came out Wednesday night, just in time for Midsummer’s Eve of the Arts.

Almost $60,000 was raised at the big gala auction for the Vernon Public Art Gallery, according to executive director Dauna Kennedy.

“It’s our major fundraiser for operations each year so it’s a very important fundraiser for us and necessary to enable us to do what we do each year,” Kennedy told Vernon Matters. “It was a good year, we’re very happy.”

This year’s art auction and garden party was held at Mackie Lake House for the very first time.

Work by Kelowna sculptor Cory Fuhr and painter Rick Bond were highly ought, she said.

The biggest amount raised was $3,500 for a vacation home rental on Blind Bay that was donated by the Mund family.

Although the weather had been awful all day long, it turned to sunshine just a few hours before the event began.

“The rain always seems to stop before this event starts and did again this year,” Kennedy said with a laugh. “It was just beautiful.”
