RibFest debuts in Vernon

Jul 5, 2019 | 2:01 PM

Rib lovers are in for a treat.

The Elks Lodge (#45) is behind a new event called Vernon RibFest.

It runs from today through Sunday, rain or shine, next to Becker Park in the curling club and the outdoor Cenntennial Rink.

“The Vernon RibFest is family focused with something for everyone. The community sized barbecue has award winning professional ribbers from Gator Barbecue, Misty Mountain Barbecue, Grizzly Barbecue and Smoke and Bones that will serve up barbecue ribs (beef & pork) and chicken,” event spokesperson Elaine Gallacher said.

Local vendors will also be selling a variety of other food, and there will also be live music.

“Whether it’s blues, classic rock, pop, Motown, old time rock n’ roll, or originals, you’ll enjoy dancing to the music of The Keys Band on Friday,” Gallacher added.

Still Munro and blues guitarist Derryl Ranger will perform on Saturday, with the Timbre Wolves and vocalist Jill Fai on Sunday.

There is also a Kids Zone offering interactive games and activities.

The hours are Friday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m, Saturday 11 a.m to 9 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There is a $2 admission charge.

A free shuttle bus will run between the curling club and Kal Tire Place every half hour.

Gallacher said the Elks Club will use the proceeds for charities, with a special focus on children and youth programs.
