6 Shades of Grey kicks it off

Civic Sounds returns for summer

Jul 3, 2019 | 5:45 AM

The popular Civic Sounds event returns to downtown Vernon Thursday evening.

The free, outdoor event, put on by the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA), will get underway at the Civic Plaza by City Hall at 6 p.m featuring Vernon’s 6 Shades of Grey.

“We have scheduled many of the region’s well-known bands in hopes that there will be something for everyone,” Dudley Coulter, DVA events and marketing coordinator said.

The concert series provides a enjoyable evening of music, and also showcases the amenities Downtown Vernon has to offer.

“Our hope is that people stick around after the show and enjoy food and drinks at a downtown eatery or pub. Many eateries offer promotions on Thursday evenings, including The Kal’s wing night and Marten Brewpub’s $5 off pizzas night,” Coulter added.

Two or three food vendors will also be on-site each week as well.

The concert series is free to attend, but attendees are asked to bring cash donations to help support the food bank.

“Alongside our sponsors, the goal is to raise $4,000 or 12,000 meals for the local food bank,” Coulter said.

For the full schedule, visit the DVA’s website here.

Attendees can park in the City of Vernon lot located next to the event site at the corner of 31st Avenue and 30th Street.

Civic Sounds is sponsored by 107.5 Beach Radio, Bannister Honda, the City of Vernon, ValleyFirst Credit Union and the businesses of Downtown Vernon.
