What’s it like to be a firefighter?

It’s expected to be a hot event.

A firefighter challenge will be held Sunday in Vernon to give people an idea what it’s like to be a firefighter, and to raise awareness and funds for the North Okanagan Hospice Society.

Co-organizer and firefighter Paul Sterritt says it takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lake City Casino parking lot.

“Fire games involve completing a firefighter obstacle course and spraying water at a target to win, along with a hose rolling competition and firefighter fitness challenge for the public,” Sterritt told Vernon Matters.

“Come see how it feels with full gear on. Plus get your photo by donation with firefighters and trucks.”

North Okanagan Hospice Society provides quality end-of-life services for local residents

“When medical intervention can no longer add days to life, hospice strives to add more life to each day. This service touches many lives and hearts in our community. Hospice relies on donations and fundraised dollars to sustain its programs. Each year, donations and fundraised dollars of approximately $600,000 are required to offset the costs of providing quality end-of-life care,” Sterritt added.

Sterritt and Michele Hill are also hitting the dance floor for hospice as well, as one of the teams in the annual Dancing With the Vernon Stars fundraiser.
