Canada Day will end with bang

Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake will again be the site for fireworks to cap off Canada Day celebrations in Vernon.

Craftsman Collision is back as the title sponsor for a fourth straight year, with the show starting at 10:30 p.m. Monday. The fireworks will be lit off barges on the lake.

107.5 Beach Radio will again be providing a musically choreographed simulcast, but you have to use a direct FM radio reception rather than a cellphone or other online play to be synchronized correctly due to internet delays.

People are asked to listen to Beach Radio for updates or changes to start times should there be inclement weather.

Dave Frost, president of the local Canada Day organizing committee, said vantage points include Paddlewheel Park, Kin Beach, Bench Road, Bella Vista and Lakeshore roads.

“Additional parking is available at Marshall Field which is a short walk from the Lakeshore Road viewing area,” Frost said.

Volunteer cleanup is scheduled for the morning following the fireworks with Vernon Yacht Club and area volunteers.

“Innerspace Diving will be doing a cleanup of sunken debris following the show,” Frost added.

Three-thousand glow wristbands will be handed out by the Beach Radio Events Crew – donated by Image Electric.

There will be a special flyover by local aerobatic planes that will make several passes over Okanagan Lake at Kin Beach just before sunset.

The fireworks will follow a day of Canada Day family activities in Polson Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

People can win wristbands to get them into the best fireworks vantage point at the Craftsman Collision VIP viewing area at Kin Beach by listening to Beach Radio, or by visiting the Craftsman Collision tent in Polson Park on Canada Day.
