The city of Enderby was crowned Canada Most Active Community.

The city took home the top prize of $150,000 at the first annual ParticipACTION Communtity Better Challenge.

The funds will be used to improve recreation infrastructure

“On behalf of Enderby, I want to thank ParticipACTION for putting on this challenge and spearheading getting our nation moving,” Enderby Mayor Greg McCune said in a press release. “It has been exciting to watch our already lively community band together to encourage, support and engage in the challenge. The stories and testimonials have been heartwarming. I look forward to the positive impact being active in Enderby will have on our citizens of all ages in the months and years to come.”

The community logged a total of 1,964,908 in physical activity minutes between May 31 to June 16 through events like the Enderby Dash n’ Splash, a flash mob, and Foam Fest.

Other regional winners included Amqui, Que., Gamètì, N.W.T., Harvey, NB., Headingley, MB., Marathon, Ont.,

“Sport builds confidence, self-esteem and friendship. It also keeps people healthy, and contributes to better mental health and resilience,” Minister of Science and Sport Kirsty Duncan said. “It’s great to see that so many communities took part in this challenge to encourage Canadians to stay active and participate in sport.”

McCune invites the public to celebrate their victory at their Canada Day Parade July 1 at 11:30 a.m.

“The Enderby and District Recreation Services will be showcasing their “Flash Mob” which was one of the events that helped Enderby win this title. This will take place as part of their walking float which will be the grand finale of our Canada Day Parade. We encourage you to join on in on the festivities and partake in the flash mob as the entire community will be joining in as it continues down the parade route from Howard Avenue to Cliff Avenue,” said McCune
