Planning begins for recreation hall in Coldstream

Jun 26, 2019 | 4:00 PM

The District of Coldstream is looking at enhancing recreation and that could include a recreational hall.

Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick addressed nearly 100 people at the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce Local Leaders’ Lunch on Wednesday.

Garlick said they hope to transform the old Coldstream Woman’s Institute and the adjacent lot into a community hall in the very near future.

“We have purchased land up at Coldstream School, we have bought the hall which was called the Women’s Institute Hall at one time, we bought the adjourning lot as well and we are looking at rebuilding that hall into a community hall,” he said.

A preliminary design is complete. The District of Coldstream applied for a grant to assist with funding the construction.

A possible museum exhibition, a hall to host events, and a library are some of the ideas brought forward so far, but Coldstream Coun. Pat Cochrane said what goes in the hall is up for the public to decide.

“We will be having probably at least one open house and we will make use of our website and our community newsletter to get feedback,” Cochrane said.
