Vernon to host B.C. curling championship

Vernon will host one of the 10 B.C. curling championships in 2020.

The city will home to the B.C. Senior Curling Championships February 18 to 23.

According to Curl B.C. eight other communities will crown provincial champions next year, the 125th anniversary of curling in British Columbia.

B.C. Junior (U21) Curling Championships – December 28 to January 2, Victoria, B.C.

B.C. Men’s and Scotties BC Women’s Combined – January 28 to February 2, Cranbrook, B.C.

B.C.Winter Games – February 20 to 23, Fort St. John, B.C.

B.C. Mixed Doubles Curling Championship – February 25 to March 1, Hope, B.C.

B.C. Wheelchair Curling Championship – March 1 to 3, TBA

Connect Hearing B.C. Masters Curling Championships – March 3 to 8, Duncan/Cowichan, B.C.

B.C. U18 Curling Championships – March 17 to 22, Parksville, B.C.

B.C. Club Challenge – March 26 to 29, New Westminster (Royal City), B.C.

AMJ Campbell B.C. Mixed Curling Championship – April 1 to 5, Abbotsford, B.C.

All events except the B.C. Winter Games lead to national curling championships.

One of the national events, the 2020 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships, will take place in Langley.

B.C. will also be hosting the 2020 World Women’s Curling Championship (Prince George) and the 2020 World Senior and Mixed Doubles Championships (Kelowna).

“The year 2020 will be a great year of competition in B.C. We will once again be taking the men’s and women’s events and combining them in an arena setting, this time in the City of Cranbrook. We will also once again be running the B.C. Club Challenge, our competitive event for club curlers. We are really looking forward to helping make these events a positive experience for curlers, club volunteers and curling fans,” said Will Sutton, Curl B.C.’s Competitions Manager.
