They are in the city daily, handling disputes across the spectrum and now a Vernon bylaw officer is being recognized for his efforts.

Al Harrison received the title of B.C. Bylaw Officer of The Year from the Licence Inspectors and Bylaw Officers Association of B.C.

He was praised by the mayor at their council meeting on Monday.

“Al was selected to be the award recipient because he exhibits kindness, and compassion and generosity towards his co-workers and members of the public,” said Mayor Victor Cumming.

Harrison previously spent time as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and worked for Alberta Provincial Corrections before jumping to the city’s bylaw department in 2008.
