Bears say hello

Bears pay a visit to Vernon man’s home

A Vernon man got quite the surprise Tuesday afternoon after a family of bears came to visit his home.

Blair Peden lives near the lower entrance of the BX Creek Trail. He said it’s common to have wildlife come and go from his property, but this visit was a little more special, after a momma bear and three cubs stopped by.

“This one little cub, he was more interested in exploring and looking in the house and he came up to the window, and then he was looking in looking in and then he started to scratch on the window,” Peden said.

Once the little cub was done saying hello, Peden said the bear’s mischief caught up with him.

“Instead of going around the railing like his siblings had done he tried to go through the railing, so first of all he got his head stuck in the railing and he couldn’t get it out and then he finally got it out,” Peden said.

But the cub’s misfortune didn’t end there.

“He went to pick another opening and he tried to get through there. He got his head through and then he got his rear end stuck, so he’s hanging there, but he worked his way out and got himself out of there,” he said.

Peden said he noticed the bears at his property at around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

“They were quite cute,” he said.
