Shamrocks roll over Raiders

The Armstrong Shamrocks scored early and often and rolled to an 11-5 victory over the Kelowna Raiders in Week 7 of the Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League season.

With the win the Shamrocks secured top spot over all in the league.

Brett Hawrys scored three goals for the Shamrocks, getting his hat trick goal on a breakaway after Carston Schlaak stripped the Raider offensive player and made a perfect feed.

Armstrong poured open the flood gates in the second period notching seven goals while giving up only a e final 11-5.

“I have to say I wouldn’t want to play against our defense” said Hawrys “They play hard and physical and give us great opportunities in transition” added Hawrys who played on the back end on occasion scoring one fast break.

“Our team played a complete game tonight from goaltending, defense, transition and offence, the guys were focussed and working as a unit all night long” said coach Ryan Nitchie. “The blocked shots and hustle of the defensive unit and the ball movement on offense was exactly what we wanted to execute tonight” added Nitchie

The Shamrocks will close out the regular season next Friday at home when they tangle with their long time rivals Vernon Tigers.

The Shamrocks are labelling the evening Alumni Night and will be welcoming back players from the past 50 years.

A second period ceremony will see all of the Alumni from the Shamrocks and Tigers introduced and a group photo will be taken.

All Shamrocks and Tigers players are encouraged to come out to the game enjoy some war stories and watch the current teams battle it out on the floor.

Game time is 8 p.m. next Friday June 21 at the Nor Val Sports Centre.
