Creative Chaos celebrates new records

Creative Chaos is as popular as ever — perhaps even more so.

The 44th annual arts, food and crafts show at the Vernon Recreation Complex last weekend had more vendors than ever due to additional space in the Dogwood Gym.

Advertising chairperson Joanne Horvath said it was non-stop traffic all three days.

“I think it (attendance) was way up. We had more vendors than we’ve ever had, [by] opening up the Dogwood Gym. We had 250 vendors including the food court. It was non-stop from the time we opened Friday, until we closed on Sunday. It was a constant stream of people,” Horvath told Vernon Matters.

Horvath said the Dogwood Gym was used in past years for creative activities for kids.

“This time we opened it up to all the vendors, and we distributed the creative activities to the different buildings so it wasn’t all in one spot,” she said.

Horvath added a new idea for a free shuttle bus from Kal Tire Place to the Rec Centre site to ease parking issues, was well received.

“We’re limited for parking, and it seems every year more people are coming to the show and we’re running out of places to put the cars,” she said, adding roughly 200 people used the bus on Friday and Saturday.

Attendees were asked to provide a food or cash donation for the Vernon Salvation Army Food Bank.

That raised $2,984 in cash, and over 2,900 pounds of donated food items.
