Chase Goes Through Golf Course

A Kelowna man has been charged with break and enter, escaping custody and possession of stolen property after an incident that started on Westside Road in Vernon, and ended after a foot chase through the Spallumcheen Golf Course.

A suspicious occurrence and possible break and enter in progress lead an officer to a residence in the 11300 block of Westside Road Monday morning.

The officer was met by a man at the front door who claimed he was meeting a friend at the property, but the story didn’t add up for the investigator.

The suspect male was detained for further investigation, which lead officers to another property on Westside Road, where the suspect claimed his vehicle was parked.

Upon locating the male’s vehicle, officers learned the truck was stolen. The suspect then fled on foot leading multiple officers on a foot chase through the Desert Cove community, the Spallumcheen Golf Course, and into a nearby residential community where he attempted to evade police.

“It was the responding officer’s intuition in this case that lead him to an area where further stolen property was located. After realizing his story just wasn’t adding up, the suspect male fled from the officer which activated a multi-unit response, including the Police Service Dog,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

The suspect was eventually located hiding in bushes in the Golfview Place area and taken into custody.

33 year old Cameron Fox of Kelowna was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
