Wastewater Facility Plan Moving Forward
Plans for a wastewater recovery centre in Spallumcheen continue to move ahead.
Township council has given three readings to a loan authorization bylaw for the project which will improve the environmental quality of Swan Lake which is in partnership with Regional District of North Okanagan Areas B and C and the Okanagan Indian Band.
Mayor Christine Fraser says the project qualifies for up to 5.9 million dollars from the Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB), and the loan bylaw will provide the initial financing for the recovery centre.
“We’re just getting the borrowing bylaw in place. Once we get our federal-provincial grant funding for the entire project completed, that we’ll have that piece ready to go if we need it, so it covers 5.9 million dollars of the project and it’s at zero cost to our residents,” Fraser tells Beach Radio News.
