New City Hall?

New City Hall?

Nov 27, 2018 | 1:00 PM

Armstrong could be getting a new City Hall in the next few years.

Mayor Chris Pieper says the current building turns 100 years old next year, an anniversary he says will be celebrated, but also brings challenges.

“We’ll be working on plans of what we do next, whether it’s build a new city hall or whatever. We’re busting at the seams right now, so something has to be done because we can’t continue operating with the space we have and the building we have. There are serious problems with the building,” Pieper tells Beach Radio News.

Pieper says the building has been upgraded over the years, but the original part of it was built in 1919.

“We’ll be celebrating that next year, but we have to recognize a hundred year old building has its challenges too.”

The building is part of council’s strategic plan for the next four years, which also includes objectives like affordable housing, economic development and civic facilities.
