RDNO Approves iPads For Directors

The Regional District of North Okanagan will be saving a few trees by adopting modern technology.

The RDNO board has agreed to provide directors with iPads, to save having to print out an estimated 9,650 pages of agendas each year for each director.

“If we estimate 20% on color, the cost of producing agendas for the meetings would be approximately $270.00 for each Director, excluding postage, mileage, and staff time,” says an RDNO staff report.

Chair Kevin Acton tells Beach Radio News it will make things more efficient and save money in the long run.

“The RDNO is finally going to step into the 21st century,” laughs Acton. “We’re putting in the budget iPads for all the representatives. Of course, most of us have our own devices already through our own communities or other situations, so we’ve decided to make available the money to get a device so that you can hook up to the agenda notes, and anybody that doesn’t use the money, it will go back to the community to (repair or replace) them.”

The district has budgeted 30-thousand dollars for the iPads.

“It is proposed that Directors be issued a standard Apple 9. 7 inch iPad Wi-Fi 61 h generation tablet with 128 GB memory upon approval of this policy document. Director’s will have the option of upgrading from the standard model at their own cost,” says the staff report.
