Recyclable Ban Starts Jan. 1
Regional District of North Okanagan landfill facilities will stop accepting recyclables as of January 1st, due to reduced global markets.
“The market for recyclabes has been significant impacted by policies initially introduced by the Government of China, and more recently by other industry processors, placing significant restrictions on foreign materials and contamination levels,” reads an RDNO information letter.
The changes will apply to the Greater Vernon Recycling Disposal Facility (RDF), the Armstrong/Spall RDF, Lumby RDF, and the transfer stations in Cherryville, Kingfisher and Silver Star.
The change has left the township of Spallumcheen having to make some decisions about its blue bag program.
