Trustees Back After Two Year Absence

Nov 20, 2018 | 6:30 AM

(L-R) Interim Secretary-Treasurer Bruce Hunt, Area 2 Trustee Marty Gibbons, Area 3 Trustee and Vice-Chair Quentin Bruns, Area 4 Trustee and Chair Marianne VanBuskirk, Area 1 Trustee Tennile Lachmuth, Area 4 trustee Amanda Krebs, and Superintendent of Schools/CEO Peter Jory.

Tonight marks the start of a new era for the North Okanagan Shuswap school board.

The board holds its first regular meeting in over two years in Salmon Arm.

The District’s last board was fired in 2016 by BC education minister Mike Bernier who said they were dysfunctional and had lost the confidence of the community.

Bernier instead appointed a special trustee, Mike McKay, to run the meetings, get input and make decisions by himself the last two years.

Marianne VanBuskirk of Salmon Arm has been elected as chair of the new five person board.

Quentin Bruns is the vice chair.
