Ministry Approval Sought For Golf Carts

Golf carts could become a common sight on the streets of Armstrong.

Mayor Chris Pieper says council has decided to seek approval from BC’s Transportation Ministry to allow them.

“We are going to send a letter to the ministry to engage them with their comments. We’d have to get approval from them before we could go ahead,” Pieper tells Beach Radio News.

Pieper says cart owners near the Royal York Golf Course have requested the change, but he feels others, like seniors, could use them as well.

“There is a lot of people that live up by the golf course that have golf carts, and it currently is illegal to drive them on the road to the golf course, so that’s where the initiative came from last summer.”

Chase and Qualicum Beach are the only BC communities that currently allow golf carts on streets.

“We could work off their experience to see what we have to do. I don’t think there’s a roadblock ahead, but there is a lot of education ahead of how we do it, what we allow, and what we don’t allow,” adds Pieper.
