New Mayor Ready To Map Out Plans

Oct 24, 2018 | 6:15 AM

Vernon’s new council will be sworn in the night of Nov. 5th, but new mayor Victor Cumming has work to do before that.

Cumming says he is making the transition from his consulting work, to becoming a full time mayor.

“I’m really looking forward to the day’s ahead. I’ve got a tiny bit of work to finish-up in my business over the next few days, and then I’ll be sitting down with (outgoing mayor) Akbal (Mund) and the administrator Will Pearce Friday afternoon, and mapping the day’s ahead,” Cumming tells Beach Radio News.

As for concerns about divisions on his council, Cumming says he has some ideas how to deal with that.

“I think individual conversations with each one will be the place I’ll start, and then we’ll quickly get all of us in a room and set some desires and goals, and get everyone focused on the end result.”

Cumming, a 63 year old regional economist and consultant, says he also will be thinking about who he’ll be appointing to the various city committees.

“I haven’t thought about that at all. That’s part of what I’ll do with the administrator on Friday is to get that list and then I’ll spend next weekend thinking about who’s best where.”

Cumming says he’s had many “warm wishes” from others who have been elected around the North Okaangan .

“I realy look forward to being on the NORD board, and doing regional district activities,” adds Cumming.
