Enderby Council has had a look at the draft Wildfire Protection Plan put together by consultants.

Mayor Greg McCune says the key is to maintain working relationship with Splatsin and the North Okanagan Regional District to ensure Enderby is on the same page.

The report made a number of recommendations.

“Moving forward we can definitely get that information out to the people in the area to remove some of the underbrush, just some for the most part common sense things that every little bit can help right. But a lot of it is just based off of the emergency planning and evacuation routes and that type of stuff if something was to happen. I mean there’s the worst case scenario and then there’s the best case scenario and you’re proactive and you deal with some of these hazards to start with.”

The consultants also advise the community to seek additional funding when available to support a broad engagement strategy regarding
FireSmart standards and activities on a yearly basis.

All-in all the framework of the plan seeks to achieve the goals of reducing the likelihood of a wildfire impacting the community, the impacts and losses to property and critical infrastructure should a fire occur, thereby reducing negative economic and social impacts to the community
