Excitement Building For The Okanagan Military Tattoo

Jul 16, 2018 | 7:16 AM

The Okanagan Military Tattoo is once again set to roll into Kal Tire Place on July 28 and 29th.

Norm Crerar is the Producer/Director of the show and is amazed how highly respected the local show has become and the quality of talent.

“We have a variety of people and acts to choose from and they’re getting better and better and we’re really pleased with that, that word is getting out and we’re getting to be known as an entity within the tattoo world.”

One of the first time features is an appearance by a high profile US military band…the 133rd. Band of the Washington National Guard.

“Within the 133rd band, there’s a little jazz group that are going to be playing at the, actually dixie land jazz group, that’s going to be playing at the Civic Sounds on Thursday, probably one of our pipe bands will be out there as well. So that’s on Thursday, the 26th.”

The 133rd  will be joined by Canadian counterparts, the Band of the 15th. Field Artillery Regiment for a Canada/US joint show.

“There’s a really close working relationship between the national guard in Washington and the reserve groups here in southern British  Columbia and our tattoo is providing a platform for them to even to hold hands, fly flags and pat each other on the back.”

Crerar  says the two bands are working on a special joint performance, emphasizing our military history.

The Tattoo will also feature the Shuswap-Kal pipe Band  from Vernon, the Kamloops Pipe Band as well as pipers and drummers independent of pipe bands from Cowichan northern towns of Washington State
.
