Water Use Restricted to ‘Basic Needs’

Jun 25, 2018 | 5:38 PM

The Regional District of North Okanagan has issued a mandatory reduction of water use for customers on the Mabel Lake Water Utility.

It’s due to a power outage at Mabel Lake impacting the ability to provide water to customers on that service.

RDNO says due to the power loss, the water reservoirs are not being filled and are emptying rapidly.

Customers are asked to restrict water use to just “basic needs.”

“BC Hydro has been contacted, but in the interim RDNO requests customers to reduce their water use to ensure water is not lost completely.  Water Haulers are being contacted to provide some water to the reservoirs,” says RDNO.

There is no estimate of when the situation will be resolved.

“RDNO recommends that all customers in the affected area drink bottled water, or a safe alternative or water previously boiled,” says the release.
