Enderby Readies For Cannabis Applications

Jun 25, 2018 | 10:27 AM

Enderby Council has given three readings to a bylaw on cannabis regulations.

Mayor Greg McCune says the amendments will cover where production and sales can take place once people apply.

“We’ll have discussion with them surrounding where and it gives us a bit of a leeway to change locations. I mean some of it is fairly clear and obvious, nowhere near a school. Ideally we don’t want you in the middle of a neighbourhood.”

McCune says the key is to be application ready.

“Basically as the application comes in we would throw that out to the public, our community, get their feedback and then if it’s smooth and everything’s going well I wouldn’t imagine there would be too much concern from the community and away they go.”

There have been some inquiries.

“A few large chains, you know one that’s kind of got in touch with us that’s kind of believes they’ll be the new Starbucks of cannabis , that type of thing. So they’re thinking really broad right to the two guys that have been friends all their life that go hey we’re gonna be millionaires.”

McCune says the procedures will be the same for everyone and the guidelines through the bylaws are fairly clear.
