Coldstream Goes to Public With Proposed Zoning Changes

An open house is going to be held tomorrow in Coldstream to give the public a chance to find out about a raft of changes to the district’s zoning bylaw

They cover everything from parking and housing to chickens and horses, landscaping and signage and more.

Mayor Jim Garlick says one issue is limiting the size of outdoor storage facilities.

“And so we came down on about 500 square metres, that would be about five thousand square feet that would be outdoor storage and we’re also going to be considering the screening that would have to be in place so that you don’t end up with just a big mess.”

Garlick says there are already situations with small properties having storage facilities that are really too large for them.

He says of particular note is lot size when subdividing agricultural land and home sites on that land.

“What you want to avoid is what’s already happening in the lower mainland and is happening up here in locations where you have a piece of agricultural land bought and a large mansion is set out in the middle of it with swimming pool and everything else. Now most of that agricultural land is covered up.”

He says if the footprint could be kept at about half an acre that would be reasonable.
