RDNO Prepares For Cannabis Applications

Jun 22, 2018 | 7:09 AM

RDNO Directors have approved a text amendment to a zoning bylaw on cannabis sales and distribution in the electoral areas.

Board Chair Bob Fleming explains that since there are no business licences issued in the electoral areas wording was needed to prohibit sales distribution without making an application.

`This puts, a temporary I would say, prohibition into the bylaw for those things, meaning that anybody proposing such a thing would have to apply to get an exemption through a variance.“

The directors also approved a bylaw to amend the text of a Silver Star zoning bylaw to prohibit sales and distribution or the set up,of a cannabis lounge in the village.

Fleming says without provincial guidelines or business licences in electoral areas, something needed to be done.

“I think this is just a way of, because there is absolutely nothing in our bylaws, this is just a way to make it necessary for somebody who wants to set up, they need to come and apply.”

Once provincial regulations are known, the regional district will sit down and take a look at drawing up zoning regulations.
