T new building would replace Winfield Fire Hall Number 7 on Okanagan Centre Road East.

“It would begin immediately. We have the land that we want to build it on. Whatever time it takes to build a special purpose building.”

The full cost of a new fire hall is around nine million dollars.

The balance of cost would come from the sale of the land the current hall sits on and reserves.

A report to council says the existing fire hall was built in four phases over many years.

As some parts are over fifty years old, the building will need major repairs just to maintain the current structure.

Renovating is not a viable option as the building was built for much smaller equipment and a smaller firefighting force.

A major renovation would also trigger upgrades to meet current Building Code regulations, and may be just as costly as a new building.

As well, a new building would be able to incorporate energy efficient construction and other environmentally friendly building techniques leading to improved operating efficiencies over the long term.
