BX Falls Parking Lot Upgrade

Jun 11, 2018 | 6:39 AM

The Regional District of North Okanagan is preparing to improve the BX Falls parking lot on Tillicum Road.

Nicole Kohnert, Manager of Regional Engineering Services with RDNO says some trees will come out and the lot will be enlarged.

Advance work is getting underway today with surveying.

“There’ll be a little bit of that right up front with the tree removal company. They have other work to do down the BX Trail as well so they’re probably going to incorporate some of the work.”

The first phase of the work will be to remove some of the trees to improve sight lines.

That likely won’t begin until next week, followed by a contract to improve the lot.

“To regrade the parking lot and make it larger so it can accommodate more vehicles there and much safer access onto Tillicum Road than is there now.”

It’s just a small lot and what’s available for enlarging won’t add a lot more vehicles, but will be an improvement.

“It’s such an odd shape, that maybe five vehicles can fit in there safely. We can probably get ten for sure but depending how we get the layout finalized there may be many more than that.”

Some work will also be done on the trail itself with a few trees removed and likely used for railing or some other purpose for trail improvement.

The parking lot will be closed periodically to allow for work to be completed during construction.

The trail itself will still be open for public access.
