Lake Country Council Not Budging On Airport Inn

Jun 7, 2018 | 7:54 AM

The District Of Lake Country isn’t budging in its dealings with the owner of the Airport Inn Lakeside.

In April, a judge agreed with the District’s refusal to renew its business licence because of building code infractions.

Owner Rafe Fleinhan and his lawyer asked council Tuesday evening to lift the Notice on Title that it imposed, but Mayor James Baker says council said no.

“All we can do really is put a notice on title saying that if anybody buys the place, recognize that there are some deficiencies in the buildings.”

Fleinhan’s lawyer says refusing to lift the notice is punitive.

Issues over the years ranged from mould to electrical, water leakage, even bedbugs.

Some issues have been addressed.

“Lawyer was arguing he’s not using the buildings as a hotel or motel. Only some of them are used for the public renting rooms.”

Baker says either way there are issues in the complex and they must be addressed first.

It’s up to the owner to decide whether to take the decision to court.

The dispute between the owner and the District dates back to 1998.
