Enderby Approves Development Without Water & Sewer

Enderby Council has granted a Development Variance Permit Application for a property on Brickyard Road to accommodate an RV repair and retail service without the need to hook up to community water and sewer.

It’s not something that’s normally done.

But Mayor Greg McCune says it saves the city money, allows a business to open and promote opportunities for future development of city hookup.

“Again, a nice step forward to allow that possibility to help us grow. At which point we can set aside some of the funds coming in and then also eventually provide those services.”

The business would supply its own water through a well and use a septic system

Staff with the city came up with the idea.

The city doesn’t have the money to extend water and sewer services to the area, but Mayor Greg McCune hopes this could attract other businesses to the area leading to services in the future.

“As we develop, because we are seeing lots of interest in that area, it’ll allow us the time to position ourselves to develop that with the proper services.”

McCune says sometime down the road there would be an expectation of a public connection in the future with a cost to the property owner.

As more businesses come in, the development cost charges would be lower.

“There will be obviously development charges that will be associated with that property but it will go into a pool and then as each and every individual piece starts to put the puzzle together then we’ll be in a position where we can then provide them with what they need.”

The other side to this is the area is parallel with the highway and railway right-of-way.

McCune says it would be a waste to put services in and find out later that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure decides to twin the highway and the city has to dig up the area and move the services
