Carp Fence in Kal Lagoon Delayed

Apr 10, 2018 | 7:38 AM

Coldstream was hoping to find a way to keep carp out of Kalavista Lagoon, but that’s going to be delayed.

The problem with the invasive fish was especially prevalent after last year’s flood.

Jim Garlick says a plan for special fencing to keep the carp out is going to have to wait.

“It turns out that there’s a huge backlog with the Ministry of the Environment, so getting the okay to putting that fence in doesn’t look like it will happen this year.”

But Garlick says he hopes that can go in next spring.

“It will still be moving forward and hopefully next spring we will have carp exclusion fencing put up there so the carp are kept out of there and that helps clean it up as well.”

Keeping the carp out is part of the plan to restore the lagoon along with possible dredging to deepen it.

In, the meantime, Garlick says anyone with a fishing licence is welcome to go fishing for carp if they want to.
