UPDATE: Head Coach and Team Captain Confirmed Among 14 Dead in Tragic Humbolt Broncos Bus Crash

Apr 7, 2018 | 8:14 AM

The Head Coach of the Humbolt Broncos Darcy Haugan as well as team Captain Logan Schatz, are among a confirmed 14 dead following a horrific bus crash in Saskatchewan.

They died when the junior hockey team’s bus collided with a truck on the way to a playoff game in northeastern Saskatchewan yesterday.

Former N-H-L player Sheldon Kennedy says he understands what’s going through the minds of the survivors as well as what family and fans are dealing with after the crash involving the Humboldt Broncos.

Kennedy survived a crash in 1986 when a bus carrying the Swift Current Broncos hit a patch of ice and crashed while the team was en route to Regina, killing four of his teammates.

The Humbolt Broncos play in the same division in Saskatchewan as the Vipers do here.

The Broncos are a perennial solid team in the SJHL. The 2015-16 season they missed the playoffs for the first time in 35 years.

The Broncos have also won the RBC Royal Bank Cup two times…in 02-03 and 07-08.

The Vipers have met the Broncos on a few occasions at the Royal Bank Cup, battling them in the finals in 08-09 with the Vipers winning it 2-0.

The entire Junior Hockey system in Canada is in shock to hear of this news.
