Apr 5, 2018 | 6:47 AM

The District of Lake Country is hoping to add an RCMP officer to its detachment next year.

Council has approved a staff request to apply to the provincial and federal government’s to add a 13th officer.

Mayor James Baker says the community’s growth demands it.

“We can afford one more in terms of our budget. So we’ll go with one for now but if we continue to grow at the pace we’re growing we will get more.”

The District contract strength is 12 members however most of the time the actual number of members assigned to Lake Country varies between 9 and 12.

The cost of an additional officer is expected to be almost 175 thousand dollars.

The District is responsible for 70% of that.

It’s anticipated that the RCMP member would not join the District detachment until the summer of 2019.
