The Allan Brooks Nature Centre is getting ready for its 2018 season.

Communication and Events Coordinator Vicki Proulx says opening day is April 15th with several activities.

“We’re going to be doing tours through our grassland trail. We’ll have a welcome ceremony of course and just lots of fun.  For the kids we’ll have The Bug Guys with their reptile friends.”

Proulx says the main goal is to just help get people back into nature and enjoy the surroundings of the area.

Several education programs are being offered.

“We’re taking school program bookings and of course we have lots happening throughout the summer.  So we have our summer camps and the raptors will be returning as well.”

The raptor program runs from June 8th to July 1st and September 14th to October 6th.

Included among the returning events is the Mega Spring Plant and Garage Sale May 25th to 27th and the popular Family Fun Nights.

“Every Tuesday evening with a different theme. The events are always by donation and it’s just a great opportunity for families to come up and experience the Nature Centre. And new this year in August on Tuesday evenings we’re having August Evening Arts.”

That will present a different art feature each evening.

For opening day, the Royal Astronomical Society will have telescopes for solar viewing.

Vicki Proulx says the Society is also setting up an working sundial in the grasslands

“It is looking amazing. It’s going to be incredible when it’s done. And it’ll be a real true sundial that you can tell time with just by looking at it just with the sun shining down on you.”

It’s to be unveiled June 21st.

The Astronomical Society will also present Astronomy Nights once a month.
