Lumby Flooding Diminishes Over The Weekend

Mar 26, 2018 | 10:32 AM

Things are getting back to normal out in Lumby after a rush of water Friday resulting from last Thursday evening’s storm.

Mayor Kevin Acton says water that flowed across part of Shuswap River Drive has receded and as the thaw continues there should be less water

“Exactly because there’s ice dams and snowbanks everywhere. So, as it thaws out it’s not really hitting the tributaries like it should. It will and I guess they’ve had some pumps running and it’s going down.”

Acton says it’s been going down more at night and coming up a bit in the day as the temperatures warm up.

“Yeah, it was through D & M and the veterinary clinic and then through one of the log sort yards. there were a couple of culverts a bit jammed up so once the crews cleaned them out water seemed to be moving along quite a bit faster.”

He say he expects with today’s temperature it should dissipate quite a bit.

Acton says while there is little rain forecast for this week, Lumby is keeping it’s pumps on standby and does have about 40 thousand sandbags on the ready for residents if they need them.
