Eagle-eyed Vernon Boy Solves Reported Theft

A Vernon boy has been given an award from Vernon North Okanagan RCMP for his efforts in helping to solve what was reported as a stolen vehicle.

Last December 18th, RCMP received a report that a vehicle that had been stolen from the parking lot of the Vernon Econolodge.

Police located the vehicle and arrested its two occupants for possession of stolen property, who were ultimately kept in custody.

RCMP say motel manager, Jenna Ibuki, was suspicious about the matter and mentioned it to her son, Alec Healy.

He went through video surveillance tapes and passed on what he found to police, who discovered the theft report differed from the events observed on the Econolodge video.

As a result of the information, the court did not approve the charges and the vehicle;’s occupants were released from custody.

Acting Officer in Charge of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, Inspector Gord Stewart, has awarded Alec Healey a certificate of appreciation for his tenacity and investigative skills.

“Alec’s uncommon diligence and dedication were essential to a proper understanding of this investigation”. Says Stewart. “On behalf of the community as a whole, I would like to express the utmost gratitude to Mr. Healy for his assistance with this investigation”.
