Good Food Box Almost Good To Open

Mar 22, 2018 | 7:40 AM

The Good Food Box is back in business.

The program that provides affordable fresh produce to subscribers was terminated a few weeks ago, but has now been resurrected.

Volunteer Tara Bradley says Spallumcheen councillor Christine Fraser managed to get funding from Kohler-Hytec to keep them going.

She says they have about 400 subscribers at this point, as they look to become operational by next month.

“We need about 500 to really keep it sustainable. So, we are definitely looking for more and more recipients of the box.”

Bradley says the earlier problems did produce a silver lining.

“People are becoming much more aware now that the program exists because of the coverage and stuff, so that’s really a blessing in disguise and is helping us fabulously.”

She says they recommend people who want more information go to their Facebook page, while changes are main to their web site.

“On the goodfoodbox.net they can access payment locations, pickup locations. All the tabs are still working and they can have all of that information. It’s just that the first page that they see says it’s closed, and that’s a little bit out of date.”

Bradley says they are close to finalizing a deal to partner with a local non profit organization, while they work to obtain their non profit status.
