Historic Change For Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion Command has now confirmed the new slate of officers elected to the Vernon branch at its meeting Tuesday night.

For the first time in memory, the branch will be presided over by a woman.

Longtime legion member but recent addition to the Vernon branch, Jennifer Pace will take over a President.

Outgoing President Bill Balcaen will stay as Past President.

The new Vice-President is Larry Dubray, who had served in the past as 2nd Vice-President.

Sandra Patterson is the legion’s new secretary.

She’s has been active over the years helping out with the cadet camp in Vernon.

Madelaine Johnson is staying on a treasurer.

Other members of the executive are Doug Watts, Diane Jolly and Corinne Jenner.

John Miller has the position of service officer.

Familiar at Sgt at Arms is 86 year old Harry Pettigrue.

The new board takes over May 1st.

The Vernon branch was in danger of closing without an increase in new executive members.
