Forrest, Canada Win Paralympic Bronze

Canada’s wheelchair curling team, featuring Ina Forrest of Armstrong-Spallumcheen, captured the bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in South Korea.

The Canadian team, skipped by Mark Ideson from London Ontario, defeated the host South Koreans 5-3 in the bronze medal match Saturday.

Forrest, the third on the team,  was a two time Paralympic gold medal winner in 2010 and 2014.

Dennis Thiessen from Sanford Manitoba, and Marie Wright fro Moose Jaw Saskatchewan,  are the other Canadian team members.

China defeated Norway to win the gold medal.

Elsewhere at the Paralympics, Vernon’s Curt Minard came in 6th in men’s snowboard banked slalom. the same finish he had in the earlier snowboard cross event.

Natalie Wilkie of Salmon Arm won gold in the 7.5 km women’s cross country ski standing race.

The 17 year old, who lost four fingers on her left hand in a school shop class accident in 2016, earlier won bronze in a sprint race.
