Coldstream Readies For Development Of Rail Trail Parking

Mar 16, 2018 | 7:15 AM

Coldstream hopes to get started soon on developing land it bought at the north end of the rail trail for a parking lot.

Mayor Jim Garlick says the first stage will just be basic to get the lot ready for use.

“We’re going to get that flattened this year. Get the infrastructure in, meaning drainage and wiring and stuff, water where we might need it in areas and then we’ll just gravel it for now.”

The lot is located near Dutch’s Campground.

“The full plan for it we’re going to be developed over time. We want to have some commercial aspect on the north end of it, but we want to rough it in for now and have it usable for the public to start parking on.”

The work will be done along with extension of the Kalamalka Road bike path which the District received received infrastructure money for last week.

Mayor Garlick notes Coldstream has been very active in developing bike trails, including work currently underway along Cosens Bay and Coldstream Creek Roads.

“We’ve been doing that all along,. Now from Cosens Bay Road, actually Coldstream Creek Road we’ve been working on putting bike paths and shoulders there so that people can walk or ride more safely along it.”

Some off road paved trail has already been put down from Cosens Bay Road heading west and that will be finished this year to McClounie Road.
