Liberals Outspend Opponents

Eric Foster spent more than double his next closest opponent in winning the Vernon-Monashee riding in last May’s BC election.

In documents released by Elections BC, the incumbent Liberal MLA had expenses, or as they are referred to, “total outflows” of $75,027.

Barry Dorval of the NDP spent $32,417, while Keli Westgate of the Greens had expenses of $6,147.

Don Jefcoat of the Libertarian Party spent $468.

Foster had $23,050 in political contributions to his campaign, with an equal mix from individuals ($11,750) and corporations ($11,300).

Dorval has no political contributions listed, Jefcoat had $205, and Westgate $1,635.

The Liberal incumbent for the Shuswap riding outspent his next closest opponent by three times, in last May’s BC election.

Documents from Elections BC say Greg Kyllo had $94,528 in expenses (total outflows) in winning his second term.

Sylvia Lindgren of the NDP spent $28,303 in finishing second, Kevin Babcock of the Greens had $2,395 in costs, and Kyle McCormack had $250.

Kyllo’s campaign received $16,350 in donations, with $3,100 from individuals, $10,750 from corporations and $2,500 from unincorporated businesses/commercial organizations.

Lindgren had $7.203 in contributions, $6,352 coming from trade unions and $851 from individuals.

Babcock received $232, mostly from individuals, with $20 from an anonymous source.

McCormack had no contributions.

Elsewhere in the Okanagan, Norm Letnick spent $87,418 in winning Kelowna Lake Country for the Liberals, while Alison Shaw of the Greens was next with $20,092 and Erik Olesen of the NDP at $8,996.

Liberal Steve Thomson spent $94,927 in Kelowna Mission, while next closest was Harwinder Sandhu of the NDP with $18,513.

Christy Clark’s total outflows in Kelowna West were $80,283, with Shelley Cook of the NDP at $22,026.
