Parents Meet with District Over Alleged Child Abuse

Mar 13, 2018 | 1:23 PM

The parents of an Armstrong girl who was allegedly sexually abused while at school by a female student, have had a meeting with officials from School District 83.

The parents feel the district didn’t take the incident –which they found out about back in November — seriously enough, and needlessly put restrictions on their daughter.

The parents — whose identity is not being withheld — say the meeting included the district’s superintendent, Peter Jory,  and official trustee Mike McKay, among others.

The father of the girl says there has been no end result to the meeting, but the district has promised to get back to them later today.

“We were informed to shed light on our concerns, and for them to apologize for taking our daughter into that class. A number of things were discussed in the meeting,,” the father tells CJIB News.

The dad says they were again told putting the two girls in the same classroom after the incident was a mistake.

“It’s really hard to swallow a simple ‘it was a mistake,’ when this was such a big deal. I’m shocked that someone would absolutely to decline to remember that those two children should not be together.

The School District issued this brief statement to CJIB News:

“The district continues to work with the families and the school to build a shared understanding and a supportive environment.  We will not have further comment as this work continues,” read the statement

The alleged abuse involved an older girl fondling  the alleged victim with her pants off on numerous occasions while the two were using a bathroom at the school.
