Major Road Project For Township

Mar 12, 2018 | 4:48 PM

The District of Spallumcheen expects to begin work this spring on an upgrade of Pleasant Valley Road.

Mayor Janice Brown says the plan is to work right from Highway 97 through to Armstrong.

“It needs to be complete for the IPE because it is the entrance into Armstrong basically. We have to make sure it’s built strong because of all the trucks coming out of Kohler and the industrial park.”

Part of the project is aimed at preventing flooding of the road.

“Last year we had a major flood on that road. So, we’re looking at possibly putting in a larger culvert, making sure of the drainage. We’ll spend extra money on that.”

Also in the works is embankment work and street lights as well as the general road improvements.

The cost of the 4.5 million dollar project is being being split three ways between Spallumcheen and the provincial and federal governments.

The contractor is expected to be named next week.
