Armstrong Fires

Mar 9, 2018 | 11:13 AM

UPDATE: 12:30 p.m.

It appears somebody has something against the 3600 block of Warner Avenue in Armstrong.

Firefighters and police were called there about 2 o’clock this morning to a garage fire.

RCMP Constable Kelly Brett says it was the same garage where a fire broke out yesterday.

“And that was the home that was reported on march 8th to have the fire involved in the garage door. The garage was actually fully engulfed in flames. The firfe department put the fire out but not before the home was damaged quite extensively.”

While there, crews were told of a another fire just down the block.

” And it was a fire that had just been started and a homeowner noted a light in his garage, went out and realized that there had been a fire started on the side of his garage and actually put the fire out himself prior to the fire department actually attending.”

These bring the number of fires to three in 2 days.

Constable Brett says it’s too soon to say what’s going on with the investigation in the very early stages.

It hasn’t been determined what was used to start the fires.

” We, you know, can conclude that the situations are related at some point, as we believe that they are arsons. We’re not exactly sure why it’s occurring at the particular residences that it’s occurring at.”

She says police understand the neighbourhood concern and are confident that somebody knows something.

A firebug may be on the loose in Armstrong.

Police and firefighters were called out again this morning to a fire in the 3600 block of Warner Avenue where a garage attached to a home was on fire.

It was about 2 o’clock when the call came in and when firefighters arrived the garage was fully involved in flames.

The garage was destroyed and there was damage to the home.

While there, they were notified of another fire just down the block where a home owner discovered his garage on fire.

He was able to put it out himself, but there was still moderate damage.

These are the second and third fires on that block of Warner in two days.

About 2:30 yesterday morning a garage door and the front vinyl siding on a home were damaged.

Police are treating it as arson.

No one was injured as a result of the three fires.

An RCMP major crime investigator and the Forensic Identification Section attended both scenes. The investigation has led police to believe the fires were incendiary in nature and are therefore being treated as Arson.

All three incidents are under investigation and in the beginning stages.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are concerned about this recent string of fires and are asking residents to report suspicious activity to police immediately.

“We are alive to the fact that these fires have occurred within a short period of time and have similar circumstances,” says RCMP Constable Kelly Brett. “We are confident that someone has information that can further these investigations and are asking anyone with information to contact us.”
