Mall Bus Stop Talks Ongoing

Mar 8, 2018 | 6:00 AM

The City of Vernon says talks continue over the issue of where transit stops should be located near the Village Green Centre.

The sites were moved from outside the food court entrance, onto 48th Avenue in November 2016, making it more difficult for people with mobility issues to access them, especially in the winter.

City Transportation Manager Amanda Watson says they continue to work with the mall’s management and BC transit on the issue.

“It is taking some time to work through but the aim is to try and make sure we have a safe and effective bus stop, but we are still working on that,” Watson told the media.

City officials have said the would prefer a site in the mall’s parking lot, perhaps outside the entrance to The Bay.

BC Transit asked for changes to the previous exchange near the food court entrance due to the rate of accidents and near misses that were occurring.
